2001 Atlantic Division Award Winners Announced

 

05/30/01 -- The Atlantic Division Awards Committee reviewed a number of excellent nominations for the Atlantic Division awards.  The committee members made their choices based upon the ballots received.

The committee is pleased to announce that the ballots have been counted with the result that Roy Heimel AB4XS was named the 2001 Atlantic Division Ham of the Year and Dennis Silage K3DS was named the 2001 Atlantic Division Technical Achievement Award Winner.

 

Roy AB4XS has been involved with his club, The Headwaters Amateur Radio Club in Coudersport, PA, serving in numerous capacities.  Roy has organized and taught several amateur radio licensing courses.

 

Roy was first licensed in 1954 as WN3IUL.  Roy’s interests include HF operation, low power DX’ing and contesting.  Roy has a technical interest in computers, antennas, propogation and electromagnetics for which he has an MS in Electrical Engineering from the Air Force Institute of Technology.  Roy also has been associated with the Boy Scouts for over 22 years, and has also served as a Girl Scout leader.

 

Roy retired in 1966, but with the information submitted in his nomination, he appears to be busier now than when he was working.

 

Dennis K3DS is the Technical Chairman for two Philadelphia area clubs, the Delaware County ARA and the Mid-Atlantic ARC.  In addition, he is heavily involved with the Temple University ARC.

 

He is a frequent speaker on technical subjects at amateur radio clubs through out the Philadelphia, PA area.  Recent programs have included PSK31 and digital signal processing.  Dennis has the ability to present technical subjects so that the beginner and the technically-knowledgeable listener can learn something.

 

Dennis is also happy to assist hams who needs his help.  Dennis helped one ham by going to his house a number of times when problems arose in the construction of QRP kits.
